At our meeting on April 15, we heard from PP Wally Spinks about our club's involvement in this project.

Rotary clubs around the world are playing a growing role in environmental sustainability through tree planting initiatives that restore landscapes, improve biodiversity, and combat climate change. As part of Rotary’s focus on protecting the environment, clubs partner with local councils, schools, and community groups to deliver hands-on planting projects in parks, waterways, and urban spaces.

These programs provide multiple long-term benefits. Trees help absorb carbon dioxide, reduce urban heat, prevent soil erosion, and create habitats for native wildlife. In areas like Manningham and across Australia, Rotary-led plantings often focus on restoring indigenous species, supporting healthier ecosystems and improving local amenity.

Beyond environmental impact, tree planting brings people together. Volunteers of all ages—from students to long-time Rotarians—work side by side, building community connections while contributing to a shared purpose. Many projects also include educational elements, helping young people understand sustainability and their role in protecting the planet.

Through these practical efforts, Rotary demonstrates that meaningful environmental action starts at the local level. Each tree planted is a small but powerful step toward a greener, more sustainable future.
