Operations Manual: Quick-Start & Safety Guide

Welcome! To ensure your event runs smoothly and safely, please follow these operating instructions.

1. Setting Up for Safety

  • Stability: Ensure the trailer is on level ground. Chock the wheels, and lower the stabilising legs before use.
  • Ventilation: Never operate the BBQ inside a garage, marquee, or enclosed space. Ensure there is clear airflow on all sides.
  • Clearance: Keep flammable materials (napkins, plastic tablecloths, fuel cans) at least 1.5 metres away from the burners.
  • Hot Plates: Ensure the extendable arms position the BBQ outside the trailer recess BEFORE operating the burners.

2. Using the Awnings

  • each burner has an awning that extends the shelter beyond the roof line of the doors.
  • Unzip the canvas bag, extend the awning and attach the braces, legs, and guy ropes.
  • If used in rain- try to dry it before packing away. If stowed wet it will mould and destroy the fabric. Failure to advise that the canvas is wet upon return will constitute damage.

3. Operating the Gas Burners

  1. Check Connections: Ensure the gas hose is hand-tight and not kinked.
  2. Fat Drip-Trays: It is easier to attach the drip trays while the BBQ is still cold with the wing-nuts provided.
  3. Open the Gas: Turn the valve on top of the gas cylinder slowly to the Open position.
  4. Light the Burners:
    1. Turn the burner knob to the High/Start position.
    2. Immediately press the igniter button.
    3. Caution: If it doesn't light within 5 seconds, turn the gas OFF, wait 2 minutes for the gas to dissipate, and try again.
  5. Monitor: Never leave the BBQ unattended while lit.

4. Professional Cleaning Tips (The "Easy Way")

To ensure you get your bond back, follow these steps while the plate is still slightly warm (but not hot!):

  • Step 1: Scrape & Wipe: Use a metal scraper for solids. For the grease, use a damp cloth, paper towels, or even leftover crusts.
  • Step 2: The Steam Clean: While the plate is warm, pour a small amount of water over it. The steam will help lift burnt-on scale. Use a scraper to push the residue into the drip tray.
  • Step 3: The "Oil Finish": Once the plate is clean and dry, apply a very thin coat of vegetable oil with a paper towel. This prevents the steel from rusting overnight.
  • Step 4: The racks and surrounds: clean the racks and the drop-zone around the BBQ
  • Step 5: Drip Trays: Remove the fat trays. Empty the grease into a bin and wash the tray with hot, soapy water, (or at least, wipe it clean with paper towels).

5. Emergency Procedures

  • Gas Leak: If you smell gas, immediately turn off the cylinder valve. Do not light any matches or flick any electrical switches. Test with soapy water.
  • Fat Fire: NEVER USE WATER ON A FAT FIRE.
    1. Turn off the gas at the cylinder if safe to do so.
    2. Close the BBQ lid (if applicable) to smother the flame.
    3. Use the provided Fire Blanket or Fire Extinguisher.
