Manningham Citizenship Ceremony
And just a reminder - the Manningham Citizenship Ceremony - is on Monday April 20 (@ 7:00pm). Our club will be represented by Tania Marinaccio and Kevin Hall.
This ceremony provides an important milestone for those who have come from other countries and chosen Manningham (and district) to be their new home. As our National Anthem states:
"For those who've come across the seas; We've boundless plains to share; With courage let us all combine to advance Australia fair. In joyful strains then let us sing Advance Australia fair!"
The ceremonies are not only legal formalities but also celebrations of Australia’s multicultural community. Presided over by the Mayor of Manningham (or an authorised officer), these occasions bring together people from diverse backgrounds to recognise and welcome the newest members of the Australian community.
Club Meeting Next Week
We meet next week (March 18) back at the Manningham Hotel; 6:00pm for a 6:30pm start. We will hear tall tales and true about the the Annual district conference in Hobart and Past District Governor Paul Mee (a former member of the RC Manningham) will tell us about Australian Rotary Health. (Australian Rotary Health (ARH) is Australia’s largest independent funder of mental health research, supporting health research, scholarships, and community awareness initiatives nationwide.)
Youth Mental Health
And, deferred from last week, Club Co-President Esther Murray (a qualified senior Nurse) will give a brief overview of the Mental Health First Aid course developed by Eastern Health.
The program is a skills-based program that helps adults support young people facing mental health issues, whether as volunteers, family, friends, or colleagues. The course covers the main elements of the youth mental health first aid training, how to recognise and respond to mental health issues.
Club members are encouraged to consider this training for both public interactions and supporting peers.

Our Club is hosting the multi district Shine On Recognition Event on August 8 at Templestowe Baptist Church. The primary objective of the Recognition is to celebrate the success of people living with disabilities and acknowledge the contributions they make in their communities. As our District Conference is occurring end of next week in Hobart, we will have a stall advertising the event and encouraging nominations. A QR Code will be available soon so you can easily nominate people. Please ensure, each of you, that you look at who you might like to nominate in your local area and get on board this incredibly important Event.
Member David Rosenwax with one of the Doncaster Secondary College Cook On students.
This week the Doncaster Secondary College Interact Club ran their first Cook On project for needy families attending Carenet for food assistance. Seventeen students worked enthusiastically to make 83 Pasta Bolognese. The cooked meals are frozen and Carenet pick them up from the school kitchen.
During the prior week the students decided on the menu, make up their recipe, and purchased enough materials to cook the meals. Rotary Manningham City will provide the Interact Clubs at Doncaster Secondary College and East Doncaster Secondary Collage with the funding for their Cook On meals throughout 2026.
At about $3 per meal, we anticipate making 1500 to 2000 meals this year. A meal can feed up to 2 people so this will provide meals for around 4000 people. This is an admirable Rotary project. The DSC school plans on doing Cook On’s fortnightly. The next meals are Butter Chicken then Hokkien Noodles.
Templestowe College will start their cooking project for Carenet in early March.

On Tuesday 10 February, Rotary Manningham City supplied its expert BBQ chefs and sausages for the East Doncaster Secondary College welcome barbecue for its new year 7 students.
We hope to see these students become members of the school's Interact club in the future.
