We have started off with a very active program for the new Rotary year. At our changeover we celebrated what our Club had achieved with the many community projects and programs we supported over the last year, congratulated outgoing Co-Presidents Anthony and Esther, and welcomed our new Co-Presidents Brian Tyedin and Brian Negus. The second Primary Schools Speech Competition last week was stunning, and we have now completed the participation of our twelve Primary Schools, selecting the two winners to compete in the District final later this year. This week we heard from the Monash University Prostate Cancer Research Group that we support with our great fundraising Charity Golf Day. Congratulations to Prof Renae Taylor, Dr Edmond Kwan, A/Prof Mitchell Lawrence and Dr David Pook on the innovative work they are doing to find a cure.
Our Board is meeting on Monday night and we will review our plans, and Board Committees and Projects for this year. We urge all Board Committee and Project Leaders to review their teams, look to engage some new members, and have a mind to succession planning. Documentation of how projects are conducted is also a critical matter for all teams.

This week we hear from Professor Renea Taylor, Dr Edmond Kwan, Dr David Pook and Associate Professor Mitch Lawrence. They provided an insight into the amazing world leading work that the team at the Monash University Prostate Cancer Research Group is doing, to ensure improving outcomes for men with prostate cancer. They are developing more precise approaches to diagnosis, treatment selection, and disease monitoring. The sad news that prostate cancer is becoming more prevalent in men under 55 years of age was a sobering thought for us all.The team’s world leading work is also investigating blood tests that are identifying DNA markers for more than just prostate cancer but other cancers also enabling more targeted interventions.
Since our Club began the fundraising relationship with the Team in 2022 our 5 Golf Days have raised over $166,000 and the $80,000 of funds raised in 2025 and 2026 is being targeted at a Global Grant that will hopefully see it expand to $174,000 to provide vital equipment to support their world leading work.
