Co-Presidents Report

Hello Rotarians and Friends,

Weekly Club Meeting 23 September 2026

This week we heard more details about the RMC Family Festival and Walk for Youth Mental Health from Project Leader, Tony Monley. Tony advised that there will be three zones for the event

• Zone A – Festival area with stalls and the entertainment stage.

• Zone B – “Scout World” with mechanical rides (commercial operator) and Scouts-run activities.

• Zone C – W4YMH Route (10:00am-12:00pm only)

This is Rotary’s “gift” to the community to hold an inclusive celebratory event, while promoting awareness of youth mental health in our community and the availability of appropriate resources.

The Event management is by Rotary Manningham City in partnership with Scouts Manningham, funded mainly by Manningham City Council community grant, and a grant from the Bendigo Bank, with other smaller donations.

These critical tasks for the volunteer teams needed, is summarised below. A booking notice will sent to all members requesting volunteers for the various tasks.

Supporting Manningham SES

Our Rotary Club has recently agreed to be the auspice organisation for the Manningham SES to submit an application to the North East Community Fund for a Grant for $5,000 to purchase important equipment for the incredible work undertaken by the Manningham Unit. The Unit was successful with it’s application and has received $5,000, using it to purchase Search Lights and Headlamps, see photo above. In some cases, the volunteers themselves previously purchased their own headlamps, but these new ones are a significant upgrade in quality. The Search Lights will also replace 15-year-old "D cell" search torches and will add significantly to the efficiency of the work that the Unit is often called upon to undertake. Just another example of Manningham City Rotary supporting the Manningham community.

Good Vibrations  Disco

At the Disco on Saturday night, our wonderful Rotarians turned up in great numbers. Thank you to Luke, Barry, Sohrab, Zubair, Karen, John, Esther and Jay. Also a big thank you to Marilyn Benny and Fatima Nasser. Two vey committed young ladies Jessica and Sophia, helped in setting up and managed the Entrance and Security.  A lot of dancing occurred and it even included the St John Ambulance Crew. Thank you all, it meant we all had a fantastic evening.

Rotary Manningham City welcomes the Manningham Community, and the wider community, to the Manningham Family Festival and the Walk for Youth Mental Health on 25th October, to be held at Ruffly Lake Park in George Street, Doncaster East from 9am to 4pm. Parking is accessible from King Street. We have partnered with Scouts Victoria and the City of Manningham to promote the importance of Youth Mental Health in association with the Manningham Family Festival.

The Walk is to raise awareness and support this critical cause to de-stigmatise mental health. Bring the family along for a stroll around the park. Sign-in commences at 9.30am for a 10am start, pre-registered walkers will all get a free hat.  To register, type Rotary Manningham City into your search engine to find the registration, and also register for the Scouts World Activity Zone, including the Festival Carnival for the kids.

Don't miss this fabulous Festival Day for families with a huge range of craft stalls, fresh produce, plants and more. We have a full-day program of entertainment with local groups performing drama, music and dancing. Lots of activities for kids with an animal farm, and a huge range of carnival rides.
