Report on Conference

The joint District Conference, hosted by Rotary Districts 9815 and 9830 with the theme “Be Inspired”, wrapped up last weekend in the scenic waterfront city of Hobart. Held from 13–15 March at the Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart, the conference attracted Rotarians (including eight from our club), partners and guests from across Victoria and Tasmania. The event proved to be a memorable weekend filled with learning, fellowship and celebration.

The conference program included engaging keynote addresses, showcases of various Rotary projects and discussions that highlighted the impact of Rotary’s work both locally and internationally. Attendees also enjoyed a variety of social and cultural activities, giving them the chance to experience the best of Hobart and strengthen connections and friendships between clubs. One of the highlights was hearing from Dr Jessica Harman AM, who spoke on behalf of the Rotary International President, Francesco Arezzo, on the theme “Unite for Good”.

PDG Charlie Speirs, Sohrab Bhopti and Co-President Esther Murray ran the ‘Shine On’ stall*, while Pat Armstrong managed the ESRAG Oceania “Rotary Protecting the Environment” stall. Leon Moore was one of the entertainers during the conference, captivating the audience and encouraging everyone to sing along. His performance was, as always, exceptional and added a special touch to the event.

[* Don't forget the Shine On Event our Club is hosting on August 8th, this year]

A standout moment of the weekend was the lively Nautical-themed Gala Night, which brought fun and camaraderie to the conference. Rotarians also took part in a community service activity, packing care packs for the Hobart and Launceston City Missions.

The conference lived up to its theme, reminding everyone of Rotary’s ability to inspire action, strengthen communities and foster lasting friendships.
Next year's conference will be held on a Carnival Cruise ship heading to Kangaroo Island on 30th March 2027. Further information will be provided soon.
