No Club Meeting: 29th April.
Dear Members and Friends,
A brief update:
Our meeting next week (6th May) will be held at the Manningham Hotel where Professor Paddy Dewan will update us on the current happenings in Kind Cuts for Kids.
At our meeting (22nd April) we celebrated Keith Woolnough 98th birthday – see photo below.
This past week our Club has been highly involved in the ANZAC memorial service. On Thursday Rod Simkiss organised the Schools ANZAC Service at Templestowe Memorial Reserve, attended by about 700 students from around 40 schools. We also had representatives from Templestowe and Doncaster RSL, together with dignities from Civic, State and Federal government. Music was provided by the Doncaster Secondary College Wind Symphony, singers and bugler. We also welcomed Rotary District Governor Peter Behm, Community Group Leader Trish Carr and many members of our Club.
On Friday Anthony was privileged to be welcomed as Guest Speaker at Heatherwood School's ANZAC Day Service. Heatherwood is keen to further build their relationships with Rotary and the Community.
On Saturday members from our Club helped out with the ANZAC Day Dawn Service in Doncaster East. Barry Halpern and his team began a very early 5am cooking session to provide breakfast for the many dignitaries and attendees.
Coming Up: this Saturday 2nd May from 9am to 4pm Bunnings BBQ in Doncaster Road. Important: please let Barry Halpern know if you can fill a shift.
Fred Farrugia (Honorary Member) travelled quite a distance to be at this important celebration for Keith. Here we see Fred, David Alexander and Wally Spinks with a picture of Keith at the REPS tree planing in the background.
Around 700 Local Primary School students and their teachers attended the Ceremony
Rotary District Governor Peter Behm (R) with Community Group Leader Trish Carr (L)
Manningham City Mayor Jim Grevis giving his address.
Barry and his Team cooked up a storm for the ANZAC Breakfast serving 350 BBQ sausages from 5am to 7.30am. Well done.
